Pittsburgh Survival Football
Survivor 1: Two of the 8 teams played lost but with just 3
fatalities it had little impact on the contest. The impact was to come from
the 44 on Miami who appeared to be headed for a sure loss. The 44 were
just about to be pronounced dead but CPR was administered in the form of a
last second field goal so they live to see another day. Two went down with
Denver and 1 diehard Stiller fan went down with Pittsburgh. Hey I
know they were at home but they weren't playing Cleveland. OK 10 weeks
are gone and that means each of the 151 remaining survivors have 10 less teams
they can choose but last year at this time there were just 37 left and 8 made
it all the way!
Survivor 2: Unlike the the first contest there
wasn't much drama here as there were just 7 Miami picks, so it wouldn't have
been a big deal if they lost. One of the 7 teams picked did lose so there were
some casualties. Two souls trusted the Jets at home and it seems
without Favre, they can't be trusted anywhere. Last year an unprecedented 70
survived the second contest but this year just 77 will pick in week 11.

Week 11:
The upcoming week is the final regular season week of the year. After week
11 each team will be assigned a rank from 1 to 11 according to their place
in the standings that they will keep throughout the postseason. A team's
rank determines who they play in the postseason and is the first tiebreaker.
A complete explanation of the postseason can be found in the
Playoff Formats
page.
Playoff Scenarios: For the sake of simplicity
and to avoid listing a slew of highly unlikely possibilities, the scenarios
listed in the following Comments & Playoff Scenarios will not take into
account 2VP wins or losses. PFFL EAST

Post a new single week high for the year
of 204, just the second time the 200 mark has been breached, breaking
the Sharks old record of 202 set in week 6 of 2007; huge week and 4-game
win streak vaults them into the East lead in both points and the
standings for the first time this year; earn their first weekly first
and Team of the Week Honors; play the 11th ranked team in points this
week; now 3rd overall in total points
Scenarios: 4VP win locks up #1 seed; 3VP win locks up top two
and 2 byes; can do no worse than 1 bye |
|

Comments:
Solid second place 144 point week puts
them back into the top 2 and tied with the leader in VP; move up to 2nd
in East points and a solid 5th overall; have over 150 more points than
their week 11 opponent
Scenarios: win locks up 2 byes; can
do no worse than 4th and 1 bye |

Comments:
Got mauled by Justice's 204 point blowup
and although they drop from 2nd to 3rd, lose just 1VP to the top spot so
just 1VP back
Scenarios: Need a win and a loss by
either Justice or TD's to get 2 byes; 1 VP locks up 1 bye; to lose out
on a bye it would take a loss with 0VP, T Bones earn at least 1VP, and a
4VP week by Commish East, Downtowners or Syndicate, or if the T Bones
get 0VP two of those three teams would need 4VP |
|
z T Bone |
24 |
6-4-0 |
1268 |
Comments:
First loss in 5 weeks (to Commish East no
less) was very costly dropping them from 1st to 4th; first sub 100 point
game also costly dropping them from 1st to 4th in conference points; and
now a Michael Turner injury concern
Scenarios: Win locks up at least 1 bye and makes top 2
possible; 0VP loss to the Downtowners and they are a wildcard; 1VP loss
can still earn a bye if the Downtowners don't earn 4VP, Syndicate and
Commish East don't earn 4VP, or if one do earn 4VP and the Lightning
earns 0VP; also if the Syndicate is the only one that earns 4VP and the
Lightning get at least 1VP, the Syndicate still must outscore them by 61

Comments:
How does a team ranked 30 out of 33 teams
in points sit in 5th in the standings with a shot at a bye? By being the
team ranked best in points against. Or as I like to think of it, by
having the #1 defense!
Scenarios: Have a wildcard locked up
but to earn a bye first must win, the T Bones lose, and match or better
any VP earned by the Downtowners and the Syndicate. If the Bones win can
still get in with a 4VP win coupled with a 0VP loss by the Lightning.

Comments:
Points still solid at 3rd in conference
6th overall but lost a key game this week taking control of a bye out of
their hands
Scenarios: Wildcard assured but even
with a win bye is not; must first beat the T Bones and if they do it all
depends on VP earned: if they earn 4VP in the win they are in unless
Commish East also earns 4VP or the Syndicate earn 4 and outscore them by
68 or if one of these two do happen they can still get in if the
Lightning earn 0VP; if they earn 3VP in the win they need the Bones to
come up empty in VP, Commish East lose and the Syndicate get no more
than 3VP and don't outscore them by 68 ... Ron why couldn't you have
just won? |

Comments:
Big 4VP win pulls them out of harms way
and into a guaranteed postseason game;
Scenarios: Wildcard locked up but
for a bye of course must first win then basically it's the Downtowners
scenario but with consideration for their lower points because they have
the exact record and VP total as the Downtowners - actually I just don't
want to write it all again. |

Comments:
Break a 3 game losing streak with a timely
win that doubles their lead over the have-nots; already thin at RB and

earn 4VP |

Have caught fire at the right time; come
from behind 4VP win on Monday night extends the win streak to 5 and
extends their position in the standings to its highest of the year,
FIRST; move to within 15 of conference point lead; no firsts but took
their third second of the year; have 150 more points than their week 11
opponent;
Scenarios:
Win locks up the #1 seed in the Central; can do no worse than third but
2VP lead over both 2nd and 3rd makes a top two finish favorable even
with a loss |
|
y TnT |

1277 |
Comments:
Seventh win eluded them dropping them to 2nd; still lead the conference
in points; had the potential points to win easy but... Little Tommy's
head has finally deflated to near normal size
Scenarios:
Total points dictate will finish with one of the top 3 positions; top 3
teams are all within 2VP and 60 points of each other so multiple
scenarios here as to where they finish but it will be 1,2,or 3. |

Key win over TnT secures at least 1 bye and puts them in position for a
top two and 2 byes; solid 3rd in conference points and play the last

same scenario as TnT except they have a 60 point disadvantage and where
they finish includes 4th |

Comments:
After dropping two in a row come back with a key week 10 victory that
puts them back in the realm of the byes; play the team after their spot
the 5th place JR's Boys so destiny entirely in their own hands
Scenarios:
Points prohibit two byes so it's all or nothing for 1 bye; win and they
receive a bye, lose they're a wildcard |
|
Middle Tier |
|
z JR's Boys
|

Comments:
Loss keeps the door shut on the byes but schedule gives them the key to
get in; Michael Turner injury a big concern though
Scenarios:

wildcard |
|
z Boys of Autumn |
21 |
5-5-0 |
1191 |
Comments:
Luck is no lady here as they come in third only to play the second team
for the week and now will be without both Ronnie Brown and Portis for
the upcoming game against the second place TnT; on the positive side
they did earn 2VP in the loss
Scenarios:
Wildcard locked up but have one chance and one only for a bye: First
must have a 4VP win; second JR's Boys must beat Pretty Kitty and get no
more than 3VP in doing so |
|
z Cleantown |
20 |
6-4-0 |
1138 |
Comments:
Spent weeks 4 thru 7 in first but three straight losses have plummeted
them to 7th; win total guarantees them a wildcard but losing streak has
made a bye a long shot; and now with injuries to Benson and Jennings, a
real long shot
Scenarios:
Like the Boys of Autumn have just one scenario for a bye: First must
beat Smiley's Snipers a team that just scored 171 points and earn all
4VP in doing so; second Boys of Autumn must earn less than 4VP; third
the JR's Boys must beat Pretty Kitty and earn less than 4VP in doing
so... Kevin I know you have the means but that's a lot of people to
bribe |
|
Smiley's Snipers
|
17 |
3-7-0 |
1194 |
Comments:
Monster 171 point week gives them 2 wins in a row allowing them to
escape from the dungeon where they have spent the last 7 weeks; had a
potential of 201 points; actually 4th in conference points but unlucky
with the most points against in the conference so a definite sleeper
team
Scenarios:
4VP win secures a bye but because of their low win total anything less
and the door is open for the Nasty Aggravators and a loss brings Little
Johnny's in play |
|
Bottom Tier |
|
Nasty Aggravators |
16 |
4-6-0 |
1111 |
Comments:
Break a four game losing steak just in time to give them one last shot
at a playoff birth; remain stagnate in the standings 1VP out but win
keeps them alive at least
Scenarios:
First of all must earn 1VP more than the Snipers; if they do this with a
win they are in; if they do this with a loss that leaves the door open
for Little Johnny's to steal the spot |
|
Little Johnny's |
14 |
3-7-0 |
1131 |
Comments:
Three game win streak got them out of the doldrums for the first time
this year but loss to Aggravators this week puts them right back in the
muck; destiny not in their own hands but if the Snipers and Aggravators
falter, destiny back in their hands because they play the average and
can only be beaten by themselves
Scenarios:
both the Snipers and Aggravators must first lose for any chance at a
wildcard so assuming they both lose: if the Snipers earn 1VP in the loss
they must earn 4VP; if the Snipers earn 0VP a 3VP week earns them a
wildcard; if the Snipers earn 0VP and the Aggravators earn 1VP, 4VP
earns them a wildcard or 3VP as long as the Aggravators don't outscore
them by 20 |
|
Weekend Warriors |
13 |
2-8-0 |
1092 |
Comments:
In week 4 they were 2-2 and basically in the middle of the pack, but 6
straight losses culminating with the Snipers wiping them out 171-107
this week has bottomed them out; but always the optimist, mathematically
they are still alive
Scenarios:
Ok remember I said mathematically not practicality; if all three teams
above them lose and both the Snipers and Aggravators get 0VP, all they
need to do is win with 4VP and outscore the Snipers by 102 for a
wildcard... all three of my starting RB's left the game hurt and two
aren't coming back at all so yeah, I believe anything's possible |

Comments:
Hold on to the summit with their seventh win against a league low two
losses; have held the top spot for six straight weeks now; have the most
VP in the league 30; second in conference points but also second
overall; destiny totally in their own hands as they have a showdown for
conference supremacy with second place MNE this week
Scenarios:
A win and the West #1 ranking is all theirs; a loss could still get them
2 byes in second if Archie's also lose but if Archie's win they could
drop to third and 1 bye all depending on VP earned and points scored |
|
Y MNE |
28 |
7-3-0 |
1317 |
Comments:
Have been relentless in hanging on to second improving their win streak
to 5; did lose 1VP to the Kings putting them 2VP back but since they
play them this week it doesn't really matter; where it could matter
though is with Archie's who they are now tied with in VP; still lead the
league in PP and PWR
Scenarios:
After 5 straight weeks in second have a chance to grab the #1 seed in
the West with their final week matchup against the KO Kings; a win
guarantees 2 byes; a 4VP win guarantees the top seed; a 3VP win allows
Archie's to steal the top spot with a 4VP win |
|
y Archie's |

Comments:
Lost the single week high to Justice but didn't lose their game, their
#1 league point ranking, their #1 coaching ranking, or their #1 weekly
winnings ranking; did lose their nice guy image though after destroying
Commish East by 80 points... Archibald, thought you would at least take
your starters out when you got up 50!
Scenarios:
Just one scenario to earn the top spot, they must win and earn all 4VP
then have MNE beat the KO Kings but earn no more than 3VP in doing so;
If MNE beat the Kings with 4VP then second can be theirs if they get 4VP
to the Kings 1 or 3VP to the Kings 0. A drop to fourth is possible with
a 0VP week but 1 bye assured |
|
z Irish Talbots |
24 |
5-4-1 |
1228 |
Comments:
Second straight win maintains a 3VP gap over 5th and also puts 6th out
of range so only 1 team to worry about this week; may have to play
without Cedric Benson though
Scenarios:
Can't do better than 1 bye so it's all about holding on to it; a win or
a French River loss equals 1 bye; if they lose however they must stay
1VP ahead of the River or the River steals the bye |
|
Middle Tier |
|
z French River
|
21 |
6-4-0 |
1191 |
Comments:
Match the Talbots two straight wins to keep the gap at 3VP and keep the
arithmetic in the realm of possibility; according to the statistics
anyway play the worst team in the league this week Commish West so just
need the Talbots to cooperate to earn a bye
Scenarios:
Must win and Talbots must lose first off; if that happens they have the
tie breaker advantage (wins) so just need to tie the Talbots in VP to
take their bye; that means if the Talbots get 1VP in a loss they must
earn 4VP in their win but if the Talbots come up empty in VP they will
just need a 3VP win to walk away with the bye |
|

Comments:
Were on a roll via a two game win streak but lineup decisions cost them
a third straight win that would have locked up at least a wildcard; a
bye still would have been a reach but now their wildcard birth is in
reach of others
Scenarios:
A win makes the point moot and even with a loss the odds are heavily in
their favor but a loss does make it possible they lose out; first off
both the Rounder and Brookline would have to win along with a loss to
Pretty Kitty; if that 3 team parlay would hit it would come down to VP
earned by Pretty Kitty and them; if they end up tied in VP Pretty Kitty
would still have to outscore them by 9 or more |
|
Rounder 17 |
17 |

1124 |
Comments:
Stopped an ugly five game slide with a mauling of the average to pull
them out of the cellar at a crucial moment; slide caused in part by bad
luck in the points against category with most in the conference; can't
earn a bye but the key win puts their destiny in their own hands at
least
Scenarios:
Assured of a wildcard with a 4VP win; anything less and everything is
predicated on the VP they earn and what Brookline and Pretty Kitty do
and even B&B could come into play if they lose |
|

Comments:
Untimely loss puts them on shaky ground but still have control of their
future at least; unfortunately that future holds a game with the league

4VP win and what anyone else does doesn't matter but anything less and
it's every man for himself |

Comments:
With so many trades orchestrated by Marty, it may have been different
players losing every week but four straight losses were credited to one
team; a four game losing streak has them on the outside looking in but
with a game against J&J this week they still have control of the outcome
Scenarios:
I'd like to say a win and they're in but with five teams fighting for
three spots it's anything but simple; there are so many scenarios
working here that it's possible they lose and and still get a wildcard;
the real mystery is what team they will field this week |
|
B&B |

Comments:
Back to back losses have thwarted their comeback efforts leaving them
hanging by a thread in the final week; have 4 wins but 1219 points
scored against has taken its toll; in intensive care but at least not
deceased
Scenarios:
The situation may look disobliging but the schedule is cooperating at
least; it's cooperating so much the possibility of a wildcard with just
3VP exists; again too may scenarios to list but the bottom line is they
need a win and hope some of the teams above them lose |

The Score: It wasn't as explosive as last week but Week 10's
scoring was definitely on the volatile side at 122.7, the third highest of the
year. Justice's record-breaking 204 pumped up the East to
127 while the Central and West clocked in at 121 and 120
respectively, making all three conferences well above average for the
week. The current average rose a half point from 117.1 to 117.6. The
yearly average has risen almost two full points the last two weeks.
Deal or no Deal: The Trading Deadline is this Sunday at 3:00
am making this the last week of active trading. In a proactive move the
PFFL is preparing to put Marty of the Pretty Kitty
teams on a suicide watch just after midnight Sunday.
Note: A word of caution
in regards to the Thursday games and waivers and trades. If you drop or
trade a player that already played in your Thursday lineup, you will not
be able to change your lineup without having that player removed from your
lineup. Any player in your lineup on Thursday must remain on your roster
thru the weekend.

Did You Know Stuff
● Including this week there are 3 weeks of waivers remaining. Starting
with next week's waivers, teams may increase their rosters to 20 and pick
up as many as 5 players each week in the final two waiver weeks.
● There not only was no close games this week but almost every game was a blowout. The closest game of the week
was a 7-point average win over the JR's Boys in the Central.
No other games were decided by 10 or less and two games were won by 80 or
more.
● From here on out teams will just have injuries to deal with as the NFL
byes are over.
● Not one team in the league has earned an x designation this year.
Every top two position is still up for grabs in the final week.
●
The 1972 Miami Dolphins may have been
perfect but their opponents were anything but. Their regular season
opponents had an overall winning percentage of .375, one of the lowest
percentages in history. They also barely got by their playoff opponents.
●
There is One (1) regular season game
remaining.
