#1 Justice 140 - #7
Syndicate 140 |
|
There have been other playoff games in the past whose outcomes were
determined in the fourth quarter of a Monday night game - in fact four
of this week's six games actually were - but none could ever finish as
close as the Syndicate-Justice game did... a tie! The Syndicate came
into the night down 140-135 but had the Arizona defense in their lineup
so as soon as the game kicked off they went up 5. Arizona's DEF scored a
couple INTs and a sack but each time San Fran's offense scored it ate
away at that opening 10. In the fourth quarter with the Syndicate now
leading by just 2, Arizona turned it over on San Fran's side of the
field. I could feel Mickey cringe from here! A few plays later a Gore TD
took two more points off the Arizona defensive total tying the score at
140. Justice actually never had the lead on Monday night but didn't need
to as their #1 ranking meant they win all ties. There were still about 9
minutes left for Arizona's defense to earn something back but it never
materialized and now via a tiebreaker win, Justice has a chance to earn
their first ever conference title. |

#2 TD's 144 - #4 Downtowners 114 |
|
This game also wasn't final until Monday night but it didn't start out
nearly as close or finish as close as the Justice-TD's showdown. The
Towners went in down 135-102 but with Warner and Fitzgerald to go there
was nothing scary about a 33 point deficit. What was scary though was
the TD's still had Boldin yet to go in their lineup. Still, we've seen
it many times where Warner throws for five and three go to Fitzgerald;
but as those who saw the game know it wasn't Warner's night meaning it
wasn't the Downtowner's night either as the final score of 144-114 would
indicate. As a result the TD's now get a chance to play in the
conference championship game and a win there would also give them the
opportunity to become the only team ever in the PFFL to win a second
championship. |

#1 Justice
vs.
#2 TD's |

8-3-0 |

The classic 1 vs.
2 matchup will be played out in all three conferences as the top two
teams in every conference won their games. Getting into the lineups
Justice may appear to have a slight edge at QB with Rivers over McNabb
mainly because of Vick's propensity to vulture points, but I believe
McNabb has the better matchup so we'll wash it.
Skipping the RBs just for now I also see no real gap at
WR. Both are more than adequate and both have better than average
matchups. I am leaning slightly toward Justice here though because I
feel a huge game from Moss after last week's clunker.
The RBs is where this game should be decided however.
Justice has a home run hitter in Chris Johnson but that may be all they
have this week. Addai is dinged and Indy is already talking about
resting players and after those two they really have nothing of note.
The TD's on the other hand are loaded at RB and Ray Rice has another
sweet matchup. Jones-Drew is at home and throw in Jamaal Charles at home
against the Browns and they don't even need to play Forte against BAL.
The site has the TD's an early 1 point favorite but the
matchups and circumstances seem to favor the TD's. In their week 5
meeting the TD's prevailed 138-100 and unless Chris Johnson hits
multiple homeruns, they look to prevail again. |

Central Second Round Results |

#1 Reno 141 - #4 Pretty
Kitty Central 140 |
|
The final score
of this game wasn't as close as the Justice-Syndicate game which ended
in a tie, but it was as close as it gets without being a tie and it had
a much more dramatic finish. Entering Monday night Pretty Kitty had a
solid lead of 42 but with nothing going they had nothing to do but watch
and wait. Reno on the other hand had two bullets left in their gun in
Gore and San Fran's DEF. Throughout the night between Gore's play and
Arizona's attempt to break the turnover record, the lead steadily shrunk
until the same TD that killed the Syndicate, a Gore score with about 9
minutes left, put the difference in the score to just one. The 1 point
lead held up for a while but the San Fran defense was having a great
night and needed just 1 more point to give Reno the win. Very late in
the game with Pretty Kitty still leading by that 1 point, Arizona had
the ball with probably their last possession of the game. An Arizona
score would take points away from Reno but a San Fran defensive anything
would give Reno the win. Then the inevitable: Boldin catches a pass;
fumbles; SF recovers; 1 point for Reno; the score is now tied and Reno
wins a tie via the higher rank tiebreaker. Then the inevitable: an
immediate call from Marty where I had to endure his ranting of their
being no God and... well you know the rest. But his biggest complaint
was he lost by a tie, a lousy tie; but were they really tied? Earlier
San Fran blocked an extra point attempt by Arizona which had actually
given Reno another point; but plays of this sort are not immediately
displayed so in reality Marty had actually lost about 15 or 20 minutes
earlier but just didn't know it. I guess I would have just gotten that
call about 15 or 20 minutes earlier anyhow. Reno now has a chance for
their first conference title in just their second year. |

#2 SS Stoggies 176 - #3 TnT 120 |
|
No drama of any
kind here as the Stoggies scored early and often crushing TnT 176-120.
TnT didn't do too much here but it probably wouldn't have mattered if
they did as the Stoggies just simply went off with not just their best
score of the year, but actually the best score in the Central Conference
for the year. Yeah Marshall's 53 was big and the reason for the inflated
score but even if he put up a zero the Stoggies still win by 3. Although
they have won point championships in the past, this will be the Stoggies
shot at their first conference title. |

#1 Reno
vs.
#2 SS Stoggies |

8-3-0 |

As always we'll
start at the QB position and although Favre has been a pleasant surprise
this year, the Stoggies get the nod with Brees.
Gore's reemergence on Monday night would seem
encouraging for Reno but with SF in Philadelphia this week I don't
expect the same production. Add in DeAngelo Williams is playing against
the best running defense in Minnesota and Reno is looking just average
at best at RB. The Stoggies don't look great either with Ricky Williams
at Tennessee but here it is again, another great matchup for Ray Rice at
home against the Bears. That alone gives the RB edge to the Stoggies.
Even though the Stoggies have Brandon Marshall who put
up 53 points last week, Reno makes up a lot of ground with the WR
position led by Welker and 85. The Stoggies next best receiver after
Marshall has far fewer points than Reno's fourth receiver. Add in that
Marshall is playing a team known for defending against the pass in
Oakland and Marshall's production should come back to normal giving a
significant edge to Reno.
The site has Reno an early 9 point favorite but the
Stoggies won their week 7 game 143-120 and there are factors the site
isn't taking into consideration: Like the Stoggies have been red hot
lately with a 160 point average in the postseason and Ray Rice has
another great matchup. Reno can win if their receivers step up but if
Rice has another huge game the Stoggies will be hard to beat. |
