Survivor 1: Almost half the teams used this week lost resulting in a significant hit to the first contest. Four of the nine teams picked went down resulting in 85 entries going down also; not since week 2 when 187 were lost has the contest suffered such a significant hit. Philadelphia was the main culprit with 61; they actually lost soundly to Oakland but the 22 that lost with the Jets have to feel cheated somehow: Who throws five interceptions in one game? Even with the Jet QB giving five away the game still went into overtime and and they still could have won but a botched field goal hold and another interception of all things by the holder no less was just too much to overcome. After six weeks approximately half of the opening 535 entries are left meaning 218 survivors will be picking in week 7.
Survivor 2: The initial week of the second contest had a dubious start thanks also to Philly and the Jets. It was a fairly light turnout compared to the first contest with just 173 signing up but with 65 kills right out of the gate the second chance contest lost almost as many as the first. The second contest will send just 108 into week 7.

PFFL Trivia

18 4-2-0 Good News Despite their lowest output of the year of 109 points and 1VP in losing to the T Bones, maintain their #1 ranking in the East where they have been on top now for four straight weeks, the longest any team has been in first consecutively or otherwise - have no weeks without earning any VP
Pts 775 Bad News Loss dropped their 4VP lead over second down to 1 and their 7VP over the middle tier down to 5; 109 dropped their point ranking from 1st to 3rd in the East and from 2nd to 5th overall - and now Vincent is begging for help on the message board announcing he needs to upgrade at QB and K - what's next Vincent, a bailout if you lose the top spot
TD's 17 4-2-0 Good News Break up the TD's - after a fairly nondescript 1-2 start, have fired off 4 straight wins; recorded their first weekly winnings by way of the second best score in the entire league 163; pulled within 1VP of the leader; have taken over the East point lead 3rd overall - lowered the boom on the Doom 163-105 covering the 31 point spread set by the site
Pts 784 Bad News Have Jones-Drew and Ray Rice off this week - and they took the 31 remember
Downtowners 16 4-2-0 Good News Big 155 point 4VP week moves them from 5 to 2VP behind the leader; earn their first weekly winnings with a 2nd; pull to within 1 point of the conference point lead 4th overall; lead the East in PWR and Eff - are just in 3rd but have the 3rd most VP in the entire league
Pts 783 Bad News Even after a week like that did not move up in the standings - and apparently the owners are in a power struggle over which players they want to trade; Ron say the word and I will change the password
Commish East 15 4-1-1 Good News Put up their first 4VP game of the year and finally put up some significant points of 151; win and VP allows them to stay in the top tier
Pts 664 Bad News Have just 1 point in two weeks from Calvin Johnson after making a trade for him and now he is on a bye - and see below

Middle Tier

T Bones 13 3-3-0 Good News After 3 straight so-so scoring weeks resulting in 3 straight losses, back on track with a nice 3VP win of 149 points - it was determined that last week's debacle of not changing their lineup in time costing them a very important win was not their fault, it was mine - of course Ritchie determined that not me
Pts 763 Bad News I will never hear the end of this

Darrlys

12 3-3-0 Good News Edged out the average 129-127 moving them up two positions and creating some serious space between them and the nether regions - beating the average may not sound like a big deal but not only was the East just 1-4 against the No Names going in, it was the highest scoring week of the year making the average a formidable opponent this week.
Pts 675 Bad News They play their fellow barristers Justice this week and the early line has them 12 point underdogs
Justice 11 3-3-0 Good News Managed a VP in their loss and although they drop two positions in the standings, maintain a 3VP gap between them and the cellar dwellers
Pts 703 Bad News The early line has them favored over their counterparts but I don't think it takes into account their serious bye issues at RB this week
Syndicate 9 2-4-0 Good News Get Manning & Wayne back this week
Pts 716 Bad News Lost their last three and now teeter at the threshold - and it doesn't get any easier as they play the top ranked Lightning this week - Mic it's ok to double up on your dosage in times of stress

Bottom Tier

Aggravators 8 2-3-1 Good News First win in 5 weeks moves them up one position and from 4 to just 1VP from the land of the living
Pts 578 Bad News Their points are buried in the land of the dead last in the entire league
Legion of Doom 7 1-5-0 Good News LT may finally be coming around
Pts 660 Bad News Have now lost 4 in a row - have most points in entire league (782) scored against
Twisted Helmets 5 1-5-0 Good News In last but actually just 4VP and 1 win out of a playoff birth so far from out of anything
Pts 668 Bad News Have come up empty in VP in 4 of of the 6 games played

PFFL CENTRAL

Comments

17 5-1-0 Good News Another win means they still own the longest winning streak in the league only now it's up to 5; have owned the top spot for 3 straight weeks now; have expanded their lead over 2nd to 2VP; no byes of significance and no injuries this week - and yes it's true, money goes to money and the rich get richer
Pts 723 Bad News Kevin said his plane was delayed a half hour in Chicago - but that gave him time for a couple more drinks before he boarded so no, no bad news again
TnT 15 4-2-0 Good News After starting the year in 8th place, have moved up in the standings each week and now have no where to go but first; lead the conference in points and Eff - play the average this week and have averaged 151 the last two weeks
Pts 760 Bad News Little Tommy's head has swelled to twice it's size

Boys of Autumn

15 4-2-0 Good News No Ronnie Brown no problem, 4 straight wins has them to their highest point in the standings; after starting the season with 95 and 89 point weeks, averaged 134 in their four straight wins - play the first place Cleantown this week so sky is the limit
Pts 722 Bad News I'll let you know next week
Reno 15 4-2-0 Good News Spent their first week outside the top tier last week but their second weekly first of the year returns them back across the boarder - Frank Gore looks like he might be back this week
Pts 707 Bad News Have averaged 88 points in the odd weeks and 147 in the even weeks - the upcoming week is odd

Middle Tier

Pretty Kitty Central 15 4-2-0 Good News Won three straight
Pts 707 Bad News Sometimes just winning baby isn't enough: after a win in week 4 they moved into 4th and the upper tier, after two more wins they are in 5th and in the middle tier - go figure
JR-s Boys 13 4-2-0 Good News Even though they are in the bottom tier in points, they are in the middle tier in the standings
Pts 662 Bad News Only lost 1 in a row but dropped from 2nd to 6th
SS Stoggies 13 3-3-0 Good News In the Cardiac Central tradition, won a nail-biter on Monday night 151-150 over Little Johnny's moving them up 1 position and away from the edge of the cliff - actually now just 2VP from the byes and just 4VP from the top
Pts 724 Bad News After that win I hate to even mention any bad news but they do have 2 key players on a bye this week
Nasty Aggravators 10 3-3-0 Good News Only drop 1 position with a 0VP loss to remain above the Mendoza line
Pts 627 Bad News It still wouldn't have won them their game but left Thomas Jones and his 30 points on the bench this week

Bottom Tier

Weekend Warriors 10 2-4-0 Good News Whenever you lose and lose no ground in the standings it's a good thing
Pts 662 Bad News For some reason had Calvin Johnson in their lineup - would they have won if he wasn't in? Maybe, but it would have taken one more moves and since we don't know the circumstance of why he was left in there we don't know if that other move would have been made, but would be across the boarder if those moves were made
Smiley's Snipers 8 1-5-0 Good News Had a great time on vacation hiking up some hill somewhere
Pts 692 Bad News Had no internet access so asked me to put in his lineup for him according to the fantasy rankings for the week, those rankings netted a 68.2% efficiency rating for his lineup - did he have the players on the bench to win? Yes! Would he have picked the right combination? Will he ever come back down the hill?
Little Johnny's 5 0-6-0 Good News Had their best scoring and VP week of the year 150 points and 2VP
Pts 678 Bad News Don't even know where to begin: scored 150 points which was third for the week in the Central which means no weekly winnings while their opponent scored 151 earning the win and second place money - their points aren't near as bad as their luck

Knockout Kings VP W-L-T

Comments

19 4-1-1 Good News This may be the year of parity but it's also the year of the Kings, so far anyway: lead the league in points, and it's a significant lead of 48 points which is also the lead they have in the West; have a solid 4VP lead for first, largest VP lead of the 3 conferences; have the most weekly winnings; even the most potential points in the entire league - and they also lead in rejected trade offers
Pts 842 Bad News Have a couple key players on a bye this week - have WR depth but will be thin a RB this week
MNE 15 3-3-0 Good News Made a statement this week taking over high week honors with 185 points, and had the potential to break the record of 202 with a PP of 212; made a major move in the standings going from 6th all the way to the thin air of the top 2; play Archie's this week with the opportunity to solidify their top two status and put pressure on the leader - have jumped from 10th to second in league points behind the Kings
Pts 794 Bad News Have some serious bye issues this week
Archie's 15 3-3-0 Good News Lost this week but picked up a VP at least and still lead the league in coaching percentage - fell from 2nd to 3rd with the loss but have an opportunity to reclaim a top 2 position playing MNE this week
Pts 772 Bad News Will have to play their most important game of the year so far without their main man Chris Johnson who is on a bye
French River 14 4-2-0 Good News Solid 3VP win allows them to cross the boarder legally and get back into the land of milk and honey - showed insight in playing Matt Ryan over McNabb this week - Harvey lost his arbitration case to be reinstated as Kevin's partner
Pts 716 Bad News Without Calvin Johnson for 2 weeks and now he's on a bye - on hearing Harvey was out Todd has thrown his hat into the ring . . .

Middle Tier

Pretty Kitty West 13 4-2-0 Good News After flirting with the bottom tier, back to back wins have them now flirting with the top tier - won two games in a row without Frank Gore and he is set to return this week
Pts 666 Bad News Power rankings indicate some luck involved as it shows a possible 3 more losses and site has them an early 36 point dog to the Talbots

Rounder 17

12 3-3-0 Good News Get Peyton back this week and taking Moss in the first round starting to pan out
Pts 669 Bad News Resided in first just 2 weeks ago but have fallen out of grace with back to back losses - Steve Smith looks troublesome
Irish Talbots 12 2-3-1 Good News Early line has them favored by 36 over Pretty Kitty this week -  a must win game if they want back into the top tier
Pts 706 Bad News 0VP weeks are killers and this one cost them 4 positions and a tier - Hasselbeck on a bye
J&J 10 3-3-0 Good News Acquire 1VP in the loss and lose no ground in the standings - increase gap to 2VP over the bottom dwellers
Pts 633 Bad News Lost ground to the top tier from 6 to 9VP from first and 2 to 4VP from 4th

Bottom Tier

B&B 8 2-4-0 Good News Rumors of their death were greatly exaggerated: left for dead after 4 consecutive 0VP weeks and in dead last, they rise from the ashes with a solid 4VP performance and suddenly are right back into the race - wildcard race anyway
Pts 621 Bad News Had enough of that already - let's think positive today William
Commish West 8 2-4-0 Good News Looks like we're finally getting that Indian Summer we've been hoping for
Pts 607 Bad News It's only going to last another day or two
Brookline 7 2-4-0 Good News Earn a VP in the loss and although they drop 1 position to the bottom of the West, stay just 3VP from daylight
Pts 588 Bad News The good news wasn't really all that good

PFFL STUFF

The Score: The points certainly weren't shy this week turning in the year's highest weekly average of 124 between the three conferences accounting for the third highest weekly average of the 4 year scoring system. Week 12 has the overall highest average of 127 of the current system. The high-scoring week assented the yearly average just over a point and a half to 116. The three-year average of the current scoring system coming into the year was 117 so things are starting to even out.

Reiteration: A reminder that you don't have to put in for more picks in your first round waiver requests than your waiver order number. For example if you are 5th in the order, you need not put in for more than 5 players in the first round to guarantee you get a player. Why you ask do I keep telling you this every year? Well I'm not just filling space.

Reiteration2: Because we are getting close to crunch time, a reminder of how the standings are sorted. The first sort order obviously is VP; the second is win-loss record and the third is total points. And just in case the issue is still undecided: fourth is Head to Head record; fifth is Reverse Order of Opponent Total Points Scored; Sixth is Power Rank; Seventh is Last Week's Point Total and if still tied continue going back. I think the odds are better of a meteor destroying all life on earth before none of these criteria break a tie.

                                           Did You Know Stuff

● Aside from a couple close games, most games in the league this week were complete blowouts. And the high scoring made the average a tough opponent with a 124 average over the three conferences. Of course, there was still a close game in the Cardiac Central - 151-150 thriller.

● No credit or blame: After 6 games the Rounder 17 still has zeros in both the Coulda and Woulda columns in the Power Rankings Report. They are the only team in the league where a different lineup decision by either them or their opponent could have altered the outcome of any of their games.

● There have been 6 trades in the West involving 5 different teams and Pretty Kitty West was involved in each one. Is Marty back in the league?

Dan Marino and Kurt Warner were the first two quarterbacks in the 20th century, to throw more than 40 touchdown passes in one season? Marino threw an NFL record 48 TD passes in 1984. He threw 44 TD's in 1986. Warner threw 41 TD's in 1999.

There are Five (5) regular season games remaining.
