Pittsburgh Survival Football
Survivor 1: It was a very interesting first week of the 2010 contest. First of all this is the 10th year of the contest and a new record high of 542 entries was recorded. But most interesting was the amount of different teams picked to win for the week - 19! The biggest favorites and most heavily played teams all won but with so many teams selected there had to be some losers, and there were in the amount of 57. San Diego was responsible for most at 25 followed by San Fran's 16. But what was even more interesting were some of the selections: Four entries went down with Cleveland, a 2.5 point dog ON THE ROAD! And if it wasn't for Mendenhall's 50-yard jaunt in overtime, there was one brave soul that could have said I told you so. Atlanta was the favorite but on the road against Pittsburgh don't think I would have gone that way. Well it is what it is, a very interesting start to the 10th edition of the Pittsburgh Survival Football Contest!

PFFL Trivia

Three quarterbacks went from the San Francisco 49ers to the Kansas City Chiefs in the last 20 years. One was Joe Montana. Who were the other two?              answer below
PFFL 2010 Draft
Most years there is a consensus for the #1 pick. In 2007 and 2008 LT was first across all conferences but last year the first choice was split between AP & MJD. This year the consensus was back with all #1 picks going with CJ. So it was LT, LT, then AP & MJD and now CJ. OK? In fact there was even a consensus at #2 this year with Peterson going 2nd in all drafts including the newly formed Sandlot League. Ray Rice went third in every league except the Central but after that there was no real pattern. Last year for the first time in PFFL history a receiver went as high as fifth - and believe it or not the team drawing the ace  (Downtowners) voluntarily went from the first pick to the fifth to take one. Again this year a receiver was taken with the fifth pick yet no one even blinked, but when one was taken with the fourth pick in the Sandlot League, it seemed to spark some serious controversy. The pick was was taken by Ritchie and Dean with their TBA team. I personally had no issue with the pick but Vincent of IC Lightning showed no mercy in his criticism of the selection. Now Vincent did have more than a few IC Lights and Dean was enjoying his evening as well, so the debate did get fairly heated. Dean bought another round and all was fine in the end, but because of Andre Johnson's performance in week 1 (6 points) I feel an "I told you so" coming from Vincent and a possible renewal of hostilities
The information below was taken from MyFantasyLeague.com's draft-recap reports and the basis used for their deductions are their ADP stats. I know this report is strictly about average draft position numbers but after Sunday's game I don't think Arian Foster is a bad pick in the first round let alone the third as indicated in the report.

Note: The MFL Draft Recaps are no longer available at the conference websites but can still be accessed here at the PFFL Home site. The reason they are no longer on the MFL sites is because when we change our roster limits to 19, the MFL software construed this as an unfinished draft and removed the reports.
PFFL Year "19"
The 2010 edition of the PFFL features an expansion from three 11-team conferences to three 12-team conferences plus the addition of the inaugural season of the PFFL Sandlot League. The new teams this year, and notice this year I have completely eliminated the term rookie as it really doesn't apply anymore, are: in the East, Shake & Snake, Jolly Roger and Lucky Lenny. In the Central, Park Valley. In the West, Endzonerz. And in the newly formed Sandlot League three of the teams are new to the PFFL: Endzonerz (also in the PFFL West), Big Kev and Coast 2 Coast. The team GT$ is a former PFFL team named Men in Black returning to the PFFL and returning from his one-year hiatus is the Sharks. Welcome to all the new teams this year and welcome back Scar & Chris (GT$) and Franklin (Sharks)!

Acquisitions and Barter
PFFL transactions are now open. Teams may acquire as many as 2 free agents a week and may offer and except trades until the trading deadline. A full explanation of PFFL waivers can be found here in the Free Agency Rules and trading information can be attained in the General Rules. Information is also available at all MFL sites under the Help link. A reminder again for teams putting in for waivers: there are 2 rounds of waivers each week, in the first round you need only make as many requests as your number in the waiver order. For example: If you are fifth in the waiver order, you need only put in for 5 players to insure you get 1 player in that round.
A reminder for trades: Teams must vote on any outstanding trades before they will be allowed to put in or change their lineups. Obviously if your lineup is already in it will be valid and untouched but if there is a trade posted for vote and you attempt to make changes you will be prompted to vote on any outstanding trades first. Also note there is a feature that allows owners to define a date in which their trade offer will expire. The default time is 1 week.

High Week

Endzonerz - Week 1 159

The Score: As first weeks go this one was about average, but as first weeks go they all are usually under average meaning week 1 was below the yearly average. This is now the fifth year of the current scoring system and in the five years only one began with an above average week, and that was 2007. We enter the season with a four-year average of 117.4; this year's opening week average was 113.7. In fact this year's opening week is about as average as week 1 gets as it ranks 3rd or dead in the middle of the last five opening weeks.

Sandlot Report: The inaugural season of the PFFL Sandlot League is underway with one 13-team league. The odd number delegates a game against the average each week and also a fairly unique playoff system. A change that would have taken place in the main league had there been another odd amount of teams will be established this year for the Sandlot. The team's score that is playing against the average will not be included in calculating the average score. Bartertown will go down as the first weekly winner of the new league with an impressive 152 week 1 score - and they did it without Arian Foster! All three conference winners in the main league had Arian Foster on their team.

PFFL STUFF

● Those that follow the games on a computer might want to consider downloading the MFL Game Day program available through the Live Scoring section on the web sites. This is a free download. It is a much more comprehensive program and also much faster with the updates. If you used it last year you must download the new version for this year. It is also a good idea to click on the program and player updates available under the "Options" tab of the program at the start of the games each week.

● All teams should visit their Franchise Setup
section at the conference websites under the Owners tab and select their personal preference options for the year. Also in this section is the listing of each team's email addresses. It is a good idea to check all information for accuracy.

● We say it every year and until someone does it we will keep saying it every year: There still hasn't been a repeat winner in the PFFL - 18 years and 18 different champions.

● The season is just one week old and Dean has already posted nine irrational, illogical, disjointed, disconnected, disordered - well, you get the point, message board posts.

There are ten regular season games remaining.

● I would like to welcome everyone to the 19th season of the PFFL and thank all who are participating!
