Pittsburgh Survival Football
Survivor 1: All three survivors chose
a different team but all had the same result, their 16th correct pick.
Cincinnati gave CHEZ 60 some anxiety but the other two were able to
sit back and enjoy two cigar games in Pittsburgh and Carolina.
Well it's now a done deal that the contest makes it all the way to the final
week; but it's not a done deal all three survive the final week. For the
record if all three lose they all are declared co-champions the same as if all
three picked a winner. Good Luck to the final three!
Survival 2: As expected the second contest makes
it to week 17 with plenty of survivors. Currently the third most ever. Two of
the seven teams picked to win lost but with just one casualty for each loser.
The final week of survivor 2 will see 18 survivors picking to earn a share of
the 2011 title.

Looking
Back at 20 Years of the PFFL - 2009 Year 18 |
The 2009 championship
game wasn't decided until the second half of the Monday night game; but
there actually was little drama as the Knockout Kings closed their
two opponents out very early in that second half and the game finished
with a final score of 152-128-126. The Kings won all three of their
playoff games just as easily taking a weekly-first in each victory. They
also recorded the highest single week score ever in the PFFL in week 14,
216 points.
The Kings broke their weekly first string in week 17 scoring just
109 but had such an insurmountable lead going into the week they still won
the 2009 point title by the 3rd highest margin of 137. Cleantown
won the CT title and Archie's won the Coach of the Year Award with
a 89% rating.

WEEK 17 - PFFL Total Point Championships |
| The final week of
the PFFL season determines the Total Point Champions. The
three teams with the most points in each conference win their individual
Conference Total Point Title. The individual team with the most
points of the three win the 2011 PFFL League Total Point Title. The
second and third place finishers in each Conference also receive
considerations. |

We directed that coming into this game Capital
had a problem at running back and the fact that they played just two RBs
and one of them was Jackie Battle, says it all. Hey, my Commish West team
played Jackie Battle this week and we weren't even in the consolation
tournament. So how did Capital... never mind. Even if they had played
Gerhart again who came through for them in their previous two playoff
games it would have meant just 5 more points. Add in the fact that their
overachieving WRs underachieved this week and as predicted they finish 3rd
and as it turns out by a wide margin. They got away with a lot of
inefficiencies to this point but they were just way overmatched this time.
The fact that they got this far with the personnel they had is a huge
victory in itself. |
|
|
|
When SF narrowly beat Seattle 19-17 Park
Valley had to feel relieved they could now play Rodgers in confidence.
And they had to feel ecstatic over their last minute decision to take out
Lance Moore and put in James Jones. His two TDs along with Rodgers five
contributed heavily to their final total of 163 going into Monday night. A
number that would force Schleprock's two remaining players to have good
games or else. But what is little talked about in fantasy football
predictions but was discussed in last weeks game analysis was the
defenses. Every offensive position player for the Valley except Nate
Burleson had 20 or more points and Burleson had a solid 15 himself. But
they got just 2 total points out of their kicker and defense compared to
24 for Schleprock. Kicking is a complete crap shoot as we know but
defenses are at least somewhat predictable. The Valley had a decent one in
Chicago but a horrible matchup in Green Bay. Ironically it was Rodgers
points and stellar play that took away Chicago's defensive points.
Considering the game margin was just 8 points and Schleprock got 11
kicking points and 13 out of Pittsburgh's defense who had a great matchup
at home against ST. Louis, it's clear what the real difference in this
game was. With both teams posting efficiency ratings in the upper 90's and
the Valley's PP lower than the Rocks starter points, at least they don't
go away knowing there was more they could have done. It was just a matter
of matchups or if you prefer timing and it just wasn't their time. |
|
|
|
It must have felt like deja vu for Schleprock
when the Valley made the switch from Lance Moore to James Jones and he
puts up 21. Especially for the fact that Moore got hurt and left the game
with just 7 points. Back in 2006 when they went by the name Donators they
lost the championship game by one point to the Downtowners because of a
late substitution. That game also was decided on Monday night and decided
very late in the game as was this one: The Rock were down 44 going into
the final NFL game of the 2011 playoffs but had some serious talent left
in Brees and Colston. Obviously Brees would get his points so you figure
the key to the game would be Colston and how many he would get. It didn't
come right away as the first New Orleans score was a rushing TD but early
in the 2nd quarter there it is: a Brees to Colston hookup for a TD. The
score now read 163-139 with most of the game remaining. Brees and Colston
whittled away at the remaining 24 point lead through out the night and
although the actual game was a blowout at this point, with just 4 minutes
remaining the PFFL Championship Game was still in doubt. But what turned
out to be the deciding key of the game was Marino's record Brees was
chasing. Had he not had that motivation this game could have turned out
different. But Brees seemed determined to break the record on Monday night
football and national TV. With about 4 minutes left in the game a pass
over the middle to Colston finally put Schleprock ahead. The record was
broken shortly after that in the same drive with a TD pass to Sproles
extending the lead to the final margin of 8 points. So Congratulations to
Marty, no not that Marty, the nice one Little Marty, on winning the
PFFL 2011 Championship! |

The overall point earner wins the PFFL Total Point Championship - The top 3 finishers in each conference earn consideration |
| There wasn't much
drama last year as the JR's Boys took a 50-point lead into week 17
and won the PFFL Point Title by a final margin of 38. This year however
the current point leader Schleprock comes into the final week with
a mere 5-point lead over Bid 66 Bandits and Park Valley is
well within range 20 back. Cleantown will win the East but they fell too
far behind to challenge for the overall. The Valley would need a
total collapse to lose the Central and Schleprock and the
Bandits will fight it out not only for the overall but the West Title
as well. |

No clowning around here as Bozo took care of Vincent and the
Lightning in easy fashion to earn the second PFFL Sandlot League
Title. With a 98.5% rating the Lightning did all they could so at least no
regrets. There were over 100 more points scored in this year's title game
than last year's 103-95 M4 victory over Big Kev. Bozo
wins it from the #2 seed and with the #4 draft pick, a spot they traded up
to get from the 11th. That move allowed them to get Ray Rice and
evidently a championship also.

It would seem Bozo's 173-point week not only won them the
Championship Game but the Total Point Title also. They take a 61-point
lead over the team they just defeated in the title game IC Lighting
into the final week. Not insurmountable but considering week 17 is usually
the lowest scoring week of the year it's a long shot they don't cover.
|
|
|
| Sandlot Score:
Although the champion recorded a big number of 173, championship week
itself was below average in scoring. The overall yearly average dropped
slightly and if week 17 stays true to form, it should drop again after the
final week. Last year week 17 was the lowest scoring of the year. |

Kyle Orton was the Lightning's starting QB in the
Championship Game. Has this been the worst year for injuries or what?
● If it holds up and if this year's week 17 is anything like
last year's I'm sure it will, IC Lightning will have the high week
once again this year. This year's 199 in week 2 isn't as good as last
year's 221 in week 9, but it's the highest of this year.

The Score: Another 120+ week - five straight actually - but the yearly
average remains unchanged. The week was actually slightly higher than the
beginning yearly average of 120.1 but the overall yearly average remains
dead on 2007's high of 120.1. Week 17 will determine if 2011 sets a new
high or not but the odds say not. Week 17 has traditionally been low
scoring with a 108.8 overall average and never has a 120+ week been
recorded in the final week.

● The 11-week regular season average
was 118. The postseason average of weeks 12 thru 16 was 124.
● Commish East won the Consolation Tournament with the
last pass by Brees on Monday night, a TD to Sproles. There still has never
been a repeat Champion in the PFFL but we can no longer say that about a
repeat CT Champion. Known as Commish I back in 1998 when they won
it for the first time this is now the second such title for the Commish
East team.
● The first and second place finishers in the Championship Game
both won weekly firsts in their efforts. Park Valley a first in the
Central and Schleprock from the West won Team of the Week Honors as
well.
● The Bid 66 Bandits didn't win the Championship but they
were the overall best team in the postseason with a weekly average of
153.2 in weeks 12 thru 16. Schleprock was second best with 152.8
and the Championship Game runner up Park Valley wasn't far behind
at 151.4.
● Deuces were wild for Schleprock this year. They win
the PFFL Championship with the 2nd rank and from the 2nd draft position.
It is just the second time a team drafting from the second hole has won
but the fourth time for the #2 rank.

PFFL Trivia Answer |
Jordy Nelson |
| Nelson had nine catches
for 140 yards in the game. He was in his third season with the Packers,
and was converted to more of a wide receiver after playing on special
teams. Nelson caught the big game's first score on a touchdown pass in the
first quarter for the Packers. |
